Mpox outbreak in DRC worsens as cases rise daily, with vaccines still unavailable amid health crisis
The World Health Organization aims to contain an mpox outbreak in central Africa within six months. About 15,000 infections have been confirmed globally, mostly in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where health officials are still awaiting vaccine shipments. Dr Augustin Zainda, working at an mpox treatment centre, reports a daily rise in cases, describing the situation as a serious health crisis. Despite having treatment drugs, the outbreak remains critical, with even medical personnel being infected. The situation could improve if vaccines become available.
