In a groundbreaking discovery, scientists have detected massive amounts of water vapour—three times more than Earth’s oceans—surrounding a young star named HL Tauri, located 450 light-years away. Observed using the Atacama Large Millimetre/submillimetre Array, this gas-and-dust disk may be the site of a planet forming right now. Researchers say the presence of such abundant water vapour could make the planet potentially habitable and mirrors the early conditions of Earth’s formation 4.5 billion years ago.
