Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel would retain security control of Gaza after the war
Benjamin Netanyahu has again rejected growing international criticism for the more than 11,000 deaths in Gaza from his country’s war on the territory.
“It is the battle of civilisation against barbarism,” he told CNN. “Israel is fighting according to international law. The Israeli army is doing an exemplary job trying to minimise the civilian casualties.”
The international community must not give moral support “to evil”, Netanyahu added.
A senior Hamas leader has hit back at suggestions by Israel that it will take charge of security in Gaza after the fighting has stopped.
Osama Hamdan says Palestinians in the strip will not accept being governed by outsiders.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has said the Palestinian Authority could play a future role.
But the Palestine Liberation Organization’s former legal adviser Diana Buttu says that’s not realistic.
Al Jazeera’s senior political analyst, Marwan Bishara talks more about this.
