Former Iranian FM says no desire for regional conflict
Ali Akbar Salehi tells Al Jazeera that Iran has no desire to see the Israel-Hamas conflict expand into the Middle East.
“We’re doing our best so this crisis will not spill over. We don’t want to see a confrontation,” he said.
He accused the Israelis of desiring an expansion of the war, saying their actions in southern Lebanon show “they are trying to get Hezbollah involved in this crisis”.
When asked about Iran’s role with “resistance” groups in the region, Salehi said Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthi movement in Yemen are all “mature” groups that make their own decisions.
“We offer them support in terms of educating them on how to enter crises – but this is as far as we have gone,” he said.
