War on Gaza: Palestinians mourn loved ones killed in Israeli attacks on Rafah
A Palestinian woman is preparing to bury her husband and son, having previously lost loved ones in Israeli attacks during this war. Their house was bombed at the conflict’s onset, resulting in the deaths of 10 individuals, including her children, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren. This tragedy highlights the profound human cost of Israel’s actions in Gaza, where funerals have sadly become a familiar sight for Palestinians living in the besieged strip.
Despite seeking safety, residents find themselves surrounded by intense Israeli bombardment, facing danger in places like Rafah, Khan Younis, Jabalia, and Nuseirat. Safety is perceived as dependent solely on divine protection, especially now with Israeli troops present. Despite international condemnation, Israeli forces have advanced further into Rafah, with the army preparing to expand operations in Gaza’s southernmost city. As a result, around 600,000 people have evacuated to places like Deir el-Balah in Central Gaza.
Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud reports from Deir el-Balah, Gaza, Palestine.
