Chile crime wave: President under pressure after series of killings
Chile’s President Gabriel Boric has cancelled a trip to the Paris Olympics, as his government faces criticism over a spike in violent crime.
At least 17 people were killed in the capital in recent days.
Boric has resisted calls to declare a state of emergency, which would allow the army to support the police.
Al Jazeera’s Latin America Editor Lucia Newman reports from Santiago.
