Cambodia welcomes home looted ancient statues after decades, highlighting cultural preservation

Cambodia’s ancient statues were returned home after decades, with a ceremony led by Prime Minister Hun Sen. The return of these Hindu and Buddhist artefacts,
including 14 from New York’s Metropolitan Museum, symbolises respect and cultural preservation.
Most were looted during the Khmer Rouge regime, a period of genocide.
The repatriation is part of a broader global effort, with recent artefacts returned to Nigeria, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia.
Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted the importance of peace for both humans and the divine.

Al Jazeeera Ferdia Carr reports.
