Decisions in coming days will shape Middle East, Blinken cautions
While US Secretary of State Antony Blinken reaffirmed Israel’s right to self-defence, he stressed the importance of how it exercises that right. “The events of the past week, and the past few hours, underscore what a precarious moment this is for the Middle East and the world,” Blinken said at news conference in New York. “Israel has the right to defend itself against terrorism. The way it does so matters.” He also warned the decisions made by all parties in the coming days will shape the Middle East’s future. “The choices that all parties make … will determine which path this region is on with profound consequences for its people now and possibly for years to come,” said Blinken. The US has made clear along with the G7, the European Union, partners in the Gulf, and other regions “the way forward is through diplomacy, not conflict”.
