El Salvador election: Voters go to the polls on February 4
Elections are taking place in El Salvador this weekend, with recent polls suggesting President Nayib Bukele a clear favorite to win a second term. Bukele has faced criticism from international human rights groups following a crackdown on gangs that have left nearly two percent of the country’s population behind bars. Civil society groups have also expressed concerns over the legitimacy of the elections. due to constitutional restrictions on presidential re-elections.
