How much does yesterday’s fuel delivery help UNRWA?
“Not much,” says Juliette Touma, director of communications for the UN Palestinian refugee agency.
Just half of a fuel tanker truck was allowed into Gaza yesterday, but “the use of that fuel was conditional by Israeli authorities” and was forbidden to be used in hospitals, Touma told Al Jazeera.
“Every gesture is welcome, but is it enough? No, by far it’s not enough … UNRWA should not be begging for fuel because we need it for our humanitarian operation.”
Touma also stressed fuel is being “used as a weapon of war” in Gaza.
She described massively overcrowded UNRWA shelters after 70 percent of the population of Gaza was displaced, and nowhere near enough supplies to provide services to all of the internally displaced, stressing above all that the most dire need is for fuel.
