Hurricane Beryl batters Jamaica, roars towards Cayman Islands and Mexico
Hurricane Beryl has roared across southern Jamaica, leaving thousands without power.
It’s left a trail of destruction across the southeast Caribbean, killing at least eight people.
The storm is now bearing down on the Cayman Islands, and Mexico’s Yucatan Pensinula – a tourism hotspot.
It’s weakened to a Category 3, but winds are still as high as 195 km/h, and there’s a strong danger of flooding and storm surges.
Al Jazeera’s Alexandra Byers reports.
