In Lebanon’s Hasbaya, daily life is marred by the distant sound of war despite relative safety
Souk Khan, an ancient market in southern Lebanon near the Israeli border, is struggling amid ongoing Hezbollah-Israel hostilities. Souk El-Khan, dating back to the 14th century, was once a bustling hub connecting Jordan, Palestine, Rafah, Egypt, and Syria. Since October, it has suffered due to the renewed conflict.
Located in Hasbaya, a town not directly affected by the Israel-Hezbollah cross-border clashes the sound of war is still a daily reality.
The ongoing hostilities impact livelihoods, displacing many and leaving businesses struggling. The market’s deceptive serenity contrasts with the scarcity of optimism, as the war continues with little hope for resolution.
