India: Bengal doctors protest colleague’s murder, offer free services amid ongoing strike

It’s been a month since the rape and murder of a young doctor in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata. Despite being on strike for a month, junior doctors in a makeshift clinic are offering free services on Sundays. They are mourning their colleague’s tragic death while protesting for justice. The hospital’s former director has been arrested on corruption charges, and medics are demanding better safety measures, improved working conditions, and the resignation of local officials. Protests continue across the state, calling for justice and safety for women, with rallies gaining momentum.

Al Jazeera’s Um-e-Kulsoom Shariff reports from West Bengal’s capital, Kolkata.
