Iran FM says US strikes on nuclear sites violate UN law, urges Security Council intervention

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned US strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities as a "grave violation of international law" during an Istanbul press conference, accusing Washington of colluding with Israel’s government to sabotage diplomacy.
He cited breaches of UN Charter Article 2(4) and Resolution 2231, warning the attacks undermined global non-proliferation efforts while demanding urgent Security Council action.
Araghchi criticised IAEA bias for enabling strikes on fully monitored facilities, framing the US as betraying its anti-war promises to serve Israeli interests.
The minister affirmed Iran’s right to self-defence under international law, reserving retaliatory options but stopping short of specific threats.
His address highlighted Tehran’s strategy of leveraging legal frameworks amid escalating tensions, while appealing to multilateral institutions.
