Japanese island’s legacy: Forced labour mars UNESCO World Heritage status bid
The Japanese government is pushing for the listing of a former mining complex as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Located on Sado Island, off Japan’s northwest coast, the mines date back hundreds of years.
But the mines’ use of forced labour from the Korean peninsula has prompted concern from Japan’s neighbours.
