Kamala Harris’s stance on Gaza will not ‘tip elections’ : Analyst
Thomas Gift, director of the UCL Centre on US Politics at University College London, spoke to Al Jazeera about how the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate and her party will approach the war on Gaza.
He said that Harris has been trying to avoid the issue so far because she views it as a political “Catch-22”; if she comes out in strong support of one side, she will be criticised.
Gift said that at some point, she will have to be clearer in her stance, as right now, it’s difficult to discern her policies from those of Republican candidate Donald Trump.
However, Gift noted that Americans don’t usually vote on foreign policy. A fraction of voters care “deeply about the issue”, but it will not be enough to “tip the elections”.
