Kenya’s elephant wreak havoc: Thousands seek compensation for damages to crops
Hundreds of Kenyans have died over the years in human-wildlife conflict, along with significant livestock losses, but many affected families have yet to be compensated. The government has now started payouts, though a 15-year backlog and 20,000 pending claims remain. Climate change, shrinking habitats, and human expansion have turned coexistence between humans and wildlife into conflict.
