Macron meets party leaders for talks with a view to discuss appointing a new PM in Paris

French President Emmanuel Macron held talks with party leaders in Paris to discuss the possibility of appointing a new prime minister. On Friday, France’s left-wing parties urged Macron to let them form the next government as he began consultations nearly seven weeks after inconclusive parliamentary elections.

Although Macron did not make any public statements following his meeting with the left-wing leaders, he has dismissed their demands so far. He noted that, despite the New Popular Front alliance coming in first during the early July elections, they fell short of achieving an absolute majority.

Jacques Reland, Senior Research Fellow at The Global Policy Institute, shared his insights with Al Jazeera’s live from Saint Malo, France. Meanwhile, Al Jazeera’s Bernard Smith reports the latest developments from Paris.
