Nigeria mass abductions: UN warns of bleak future for child education

In the village of Kuriga, in Nigeria’s northwestern Kaduna state, parents anxiously await news of 287 kidnapped students and a teacher. Nigeria has around 10 million unschooled children, primarily in violent northern regions. Numerous schools have been closed or destroyed due to violence.
Kidnappings are common by armed groups seeking ransom.
The UN forecasts a disastrous future for Nigerian education if the government and armed forces don’t act to halt school raids and invest in education.

Al Jazeera’s Ahmed Idris reports from Kaduna state, Nigeria.
