Pakistan election results: Protests against slow vote counting
The chief of Pakistan’s influential army is calling for stable hands and a healing touch after an inconclusive general election. Both jailed politician Imran Khan and another former prime minister Nawaz Sharif are claiming victory but none of the parties have a majority. Independent candidates linked to Imran Khan’s party have defied expectations and won 102 seats so far. They cannot form a government on their own – only join a party. Nawaz Sharif’s party comes up next with 73 seats. and wants others to join a coalition. The centre-left Pakistan’s People’s Party in third place with 54 seats.
