Palestinians mark 76th Nakba anniversary as Israel continues assault across Gaza
Today marks the 76th anniversary of the Palestinian “Nakba”, commemorating the displacement of 750,000 Palestinians in 1948. The current situation mirrors this with over 1.5 million Palestinians displaced since October 7 and much of Gaza’s housing destroyed, rendering the area uninhabitable. This recalls the experience of Palestinians in 1948, facing an unforeseen fate.
Meanwhile, Palestinians in the Occupied West Bank observed the day as Israel escalated its military operations across Gaza. Shelling of the Jabalia refugee camp in Northern Gaza resulted in the deaths of four Palestinians, while another strike targeted a UNRWA-affiliated clinic in Gaza City, claiming at least ten lives. Additionally, Israel targeted both the Al Bureij and Nuseirat refugee camps in central Gaza, resulting in the deaths of dozens of Palestinians.
Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum reports from Deir al Balah in central Gaza.
