Scientists Believe Earth’s Moon has a Siblings | WION Podcast
Scientists have discovered a potential "sibling" to Earth’s Moon, officially named 101429, 1998 VF31. This 4.5-billion-year-old asteroid, hiding near Mars in a Lagrange point, shares a similar composition with the Moon, including pyroxene and iron. Though discovered in 1998, it was recently confirmed through spectroscopic observations from Chile’s Very Large Telescope that this celestial body has a lunar appearance. The asteroid’s close resemblance to the Moon suggests a shared origin, possibly from debris following a massive impact on Earth billions of years ago.
