UK suspends Apple, Google app store probes | World Business Watch | WION News
The UK’s competition and markets authority or the CMA has suspended its investigations into Apple and Google’s app stores, awaiting new legislation designed to address digital market concerns. This move follows scrutiny over the tech giants’ control of app distribution and alleged monopolistic practices. In 2022, the CMA’s market study highlighted Apple’s app store and Google’s play store as holding a near-monopoly in the UK’s mobile ecosystem. This led to investigations into their practices, including charges of unfair fees and restricted competition for app developers. However, the CMA has now paused these probes as it prepares for the upcoming digital markets, competition and consumers act.
