UN decries ‘unfathomable’ numbers killed in occupied West Bank since October 7
The UN Human Rights Chief has renewed his calls to end the increasing violence in the occupied West Bank.
Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 500 Palestinians since the war on Gaza began in October.
In a strongly worded statement, Volker Turk described the killing, destruction and widespread rights violations there, as unacceptable.
He’s urging that the violence cease immediately.
He also states that any allegation of unlawful killings must be thoroughly and independently investigated and those responsible held to account.
The UN human rights chief also says pervasive impunity for such crimes has been common place for far too long in the occupied West Bank.
Tamer Qarmout is an Associate Professor of Public Policy at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies.
He says the violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, is not getting enough attention.
