UN marks World Humanitarian Day in Lebanon, urges protection for civilians and aid workers
The UN held a solidarity stand in southern Lebanon to mark World Humanitarian Day, commemorating humanitarian workers lost in conflict. The event followed an Israeli strike in March that killed seven in a village. UN Resident Coordinator Imran Reza stressed the need to respect international humanitarian law. Since Hezbollah began its attacks on Israel in solidarity with Gaza in October, 21 paramedics have been killed, and civilian casualties have risen. The conflict has intensified, with Israel’s attacks deepening into Lebanon, causing increased displacement and humanitarian challenges.
Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr reports from southern Lebanon.
