Nestle. It’s the biggest food and beverage company in the world. It’s also the largest provider of bottled water in the world. In fact, there’s a pretty good chance that you’re eating or drinking a Nestle product as you read this. Nestle casts a pretty wide web of brands, more than 8,000 actually. They operate in almost 200 different countries and employ over 300,000 people all over the world. So, what happens when this super-big, mega-powerful company crosses the line to turn a profit? Not very much to be honest.
Nestle has had almost as many scandals as they have choices of products. When you generate over $94Billion in sales, you have the pull to get away with just about anything. We’re talking about neglecting health and safety measures that leave thousands sick and some deceased. We’re talking about child labor and trafficking across Western Africa. And we’re talking about price fixing and corporate greed on a scale that has been seldom seen before. Nestle has drained so much water from regional aquifers that it’s contributed to drought in California and the spread of disease in lesser developed nations. They’ve also mislabeled their products to seem healthier, and greenwashed their company perception to seem more environmentally conscious than they actually are.
