‘Widening rift’ between Israeli PM and army over ‘Hamas defeat’ comments
There is a growing rift between the Israeli government and its army. The Israeli military’s spokesperson, Daniel Hagari, stated that defeating Hamas is impossible because it is “an ideology” ingrained in the people. In response, the Israeli prime minister’s office expressed anger and issued a statement asserting that one of the war’s goals is to eliminate Hamas’s military and political capabilities. However, the army’s spokesperson countered, saying that such claims mislead the public. This situation highlights the conflict between Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies and the army’s realistic assessment on the ground.
